For the second time the implementation of carbon tax in Indonesia has been postponed again. This was revealed in the press conference of the APBN KiTA, last Thursday (23/6/2022) with the Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency of the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Kacaribu, who said that the Ministry of Finance was considering postponing the imposition of the carbon tax which was previously planned to take effect on July 1, 2022.
As informed Previously, the implementation of a carbon tax in Indonesia was originally planned for April 1, 2022, as mandated by the Law on the Harmonization of Tax Regulations (UU HPP). However, its implementation was postponed to July 1, 2022.
According to the Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency of the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Kacaribu, the postponement took into account several things, one of which was the volatile economic condition due to the global situation.
It was said by Febrio Kacaribu, a man who was born in Sidikalang, North Sumatra, that currently all supporting regulations and the implementation of the carbon tax are still being finalized by all ministries/agencies.
“The preparation of these regulations certainly takes into account all aspects, including the development of the carbon market in particular, the achievement of the target of our national determined contribution, then the readiness of our sectors and the condition of our economy,” said Febrio, a graduate of Economics from the University of Indonesia.
He emphasized that with the current condition, the government is considering reviewing the implementation of the carbon tax on July 1, 2022.
